Three tech startups based in Liverpool City Region have been crowned winners of Baltic Ventures’ pilot Launchpad programme and each been awarded a share of a £50,000 cash prize.

Dearbump, EdenFiftyOne and MetPsy were one of 14 startups successfully chosen to join our inaugural six-month initiative, which launched in January 2024.

Launchpad is a cohort-based programme that is designed to enable exciting early-stage companies to grow as quickly, efficiently and sustainably as possible by working with them to develop an investment backable value proposition. Over the last six months, founding teams were given access to monthly masterclasses, 1:1 coaching and an opportunity to pitch for an equity-free cash prize.

We’re delighted to reveal that a £50k cash prize has been awarded to dearbump (£25k), MetPsy (£12.5k) and EdenFiftyOne (£12.5k).

“We are delighted to announce Dear Bump, EdenFiftyOne and MetPsy as the winners of the Baltic Ventures Launchpad 2024 Prizes,” said Baltic Ventures community manager Becca Harvey. “Over the last 6 months, Launchpad has supported 14 Liverpool and North West based founders to grow quickly, efficiently and sustainably by working with them to develop an investment backable value proposition.

“The standard of all the companies involved with the programme is fantastic, and is a real testament to entrepreneurial spirit of Liverpool. I already cannot wait for the next Launchpad programme, which will kick off in January 2025.”

Rebecca Robinson, lead coach, added: “The launchpad programme has been a real delight to lead. The cohort was full to the brim with great founders leading interesting businesses as with all programmes. But the progression we’ve seen and the evolution of their strategy, self development and value proposition has been really exciting to watch. Liverpool is defo the city to watch!”

Dearbump is a revolutionary product aimed at addressing the significant gaps in maternal healthcare worldwide, by providing expecting mothers with comprehensive support and information and access to expert health professionals throughout their pregnancy journey.

Founder and CEO Emma Jarvis said being part of Launchpad gave her “an incredible opportunity” to work with a community of experts and founders. “This has helped me to reflect on my mission and vision for dearbump and be more laser focused on achieving product market fit,” she said.

Dearbump provides maternity support through omnichannel access to expert health professionals, personalised pregnancy products and community support for expectant mothers.

Emma added: “We now have a clear plan on how to move forward and the prize money will be used to grow the team and help us achieve our mission to improve maternal health outcomes globally. Thank you to everyone at the Baltic Ventures team for being so supportive.”

A platform using the ketogenic diet to improve mental health, healthtech startup MetPsy is providing users with an all-important combination of coaching, being part of a knowledgeable and non-judgemental community and personalised data.

Co-founder and CEO Ally Houston moved to Liverpool last year and says every connection he’s made so far has been “so generous with their time, contacts and knowledge”.

“Beyond the world class business mentoring, investor sessions, and coaching support, Baltic Ventures has allowed me to plant roots in the city,” he said. “The £12,500 prize will allow MetPsy to double down on the growth already achieved over the past six months, with thanks to the support offered by Baltic Ventures, and the talented and growing MetPsy team.”

Promoting the 51 universal skills at the core of reading, writing, speaking and listening, EdenFiftyOne is an edtech platform on a mission to transform global English language education.

“The programme was a unique opportunity to learn from industry specialists and to grow amongst an incredible cohort of founders,” said founder and CEO Tom Reynolds. “It really does mean a lot to me and to EdenFiftyOne. Thank you!”

The next Launchpad cohort will start in January 2025, with applications opening in Autumn 2024.

* The cash prize of £50,000 distributed to the top three startups in our Launchpad programme was made possible thanks to the extraordinary generosity of one of our angel investors. This contribution is a testament to the support our investor community has in the potential of promising startups in the Liverpool City Region and wider North West.
